"Leadership is not a title.

 It's a behavior.

Live it."

Alma Hernandez was raised in Suisun City. She attended both Crescent and Suisun Elementary School and counts herself lucky to still have friends in her life that she met in those early years. Since her youth, Alma displayed unique leadership skills. From being elected to student council, to being part of the conflict resolution team, to becoming the school marching band’s drum major (marching band leader) at Grange Middle School. She would continue to display these leadership skills as part of Key Club, the Honor Society, the International Student Club, and as the leader of the marching band at Armijo High School. After performing competitively as a drum major for several years, she qualified to represent the United States as a U.S.A Drum Major All-Star at an International Paris Parade in Paris, France, performing to a worldwide audience. She was a well-accomplished leader by the time she was 17, with the help and support of great local teachers and mentors.

Alma Hernandez is a community leader and a business woman.

Alma is passionate about leading through the service of her work, that is what gives her purpose every day. From her experience in working with and mentoring young men at a youth correctional facility to negotiating national contracts, she brings a mindful approach when working with individuals and organizations.

Her background includes seven (7) years in healthcare administration with an emphasis in outpatient medical resonance imaging (MRI) and disease management. As an Expedited Healthcare Coordinator, Alma was part of a special unit responsible for coordinating the support for recently hospitalized patients from across the country during a critical time period in their recovery. Alma’s background also includes 10 years in education. She has consulted school districts in the State of California and worked directly with chief business officials, superintendents, and fiscal directors to increase funding based on money owed to them by the state. She has now for almost five (5) years project managed national professional development conferences for school leaders from across the country at a non-profit organization funded by the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation. In addition, she has successfully consulted for over eight (8) years regional and national events through her freelance event consulting company.  She has worked with and consulted on events for the media station Telemundo 48, the California Hispanic Chambers of Commerce, Latina Style Magazine,  National Women's Math Conference for Building Diversity in Science, and a Women’s Economic Empowerment Global Event at Microsoft Reactor, to name a few.

However, if you ask people what they know about her they will most likely tell you that they know her from her volunteer work. Alma has loved supporting community initiatives since she was a youth. From being a youth group coordinator and mentoring troubled youth, to car washes to raise money to save the music programs in schools, to fundraising for the Boys and Girls Club, to feeding the hungry, to raising money for hurricane victims, to fundraising for breast cancer awareness, to cleaning up trash from city streets, to advocating for underrepresented communities and mental health services. She has been a guest speaker at youth conferences, at media and radio stations, at schools throughout Northern California, and as a panelist for a global event addressing economic disparity for women. Alma believes in helping and supporting others in their journey and hopes to make a positive difference on issues she cares about.

Alma currently serves as president of the Solano Hispanic Chamber of Commerce, an organization in which she has served in various board roles for the past eight (8) years. Seeing a need for additional support for Latina women across the county, Alma founded the non-profit organization Latinas de Solano County in 2019, where she serves as the Executive Director. Alma also belongs to various city committees, foundation boards, county-based business organizations, as well as youth and young adult mentoring programs.

Alma holds a Bachelor of Science Degree in Business Administration with a double concentration in Management and Entrepreneurship and a minor in Psychology from California State University, Sacramento. Alma is a graduate of the Women's Leadership Program from the Yale School of Management. She also holds a certification in Medical Administration, a certification in Chamber Leadership, a certification as a Digital Event Strategist, an Associates of Arts Degree in Liberal Arts, and an Associates of Science Degree in Business General. Alma is currently continuing her education via the Harvard edX program.

Alma believes that her background and experience in various leadership roles, in project management, community service, and her work ethic will serve her well as a Councilmember. Alma brings with her a vision and dedication to move Suisun City forward.
